On Tuesday, a judge ordered 29-year-old Eliasard Moneus to serve 92 years in prison for the death of his 3-month-old son, Jacob in 2024, WTHR reported.

According to court documents, Eliasard’s wife said he got upset with her on Aug. 5, 2024, and the two hadn’t spoken to each other since that evening.
The wife allegedly told officers she was sitting at home in a chair in her bedroom watching a church service with baby Jacob when Eliasard entered the room, took baby Jacob and she heard the front door close.
Eliasard then returned home approximately 30 minutes later, came into the bedroom and hit her multiple times with an item described as a tire iron or wrench.
The wife told officers that Eliasard then left their home, and she did not know where baby Jacob was since Eliasard allegedly left the home with him before the attack.
She then drove herself to a hospital where she was treated for her injuries, including a skull fracture.
Officers then responded to the hospital, but they discovered baby Jacob was not with her at the hospital. When police went back to the apartment, they couldn’t find the baby.
A Silver Alert for Jacob was issued after he went missing on Aug 10, 2024, according to a press release.
Lafayette Police said it was believed that the child was in “extreme danger” and needed medical attention.
However, the next day, the alert was canceled when the 3-month-old was found dead in a “devastating development.”
After going back to do a second search of the apartment, police said baby Jacob’s body was found “very well hidden where a normal person wouldn’t think to look.”
Detectives found baby Jacob dead in a bucket with the lid attached and next to the trash can in the kitchen, WISH reported.
As part of a plea deal, charges of aggravated battery, criminal confinement and domestic battery against Eliasard were dropped.
