A strange “water snake” forms between Silao and León

Tornadoes in Guanajuato? A tornado appeared in the skies of these two municipalities this afternoon.

León ,  Guanajuato – Did you see it? A whirlwind suddenly emerged from the  cloudy sky  this Thursday afternoon. It was on the highway between  Silao  and León.

Some netizens on  social media  called  the strange formation that appeared in the skies  a ” water snake.”

What was that phenomenon?  Julio César Martínez , an atmospheric science specialist at the College of Water Engineers of Guanajuato, explained that it’s also known as a funnel cloud, water snake, or freshwater spout.

The specialist explained that the factors that favor the formation of this type of  phenomenon  are primarily the collision of air masses with different temperatures. Above, cumulonimbus clouds laden with  moisture  and  hail  , and below, cushions of warm air. A freshwater spout requires a  very warm surface body of water  . A tornado likewise requires high-quality surfaces.
